Tying The Knot

Although the sun might not shine like we all will it in Scotland on our big day, the day is always exquisite. The beautiful surroundings mixed with the fantastic high quality businesses and services within the Borders leaves us with the question, why would you want to get married anywhere else?

Where, is often the question asked first. Church, registry, country house? There is a long list of possibilities but here are two of our favourites.

Carfraemill is definitely a ‘best-of-both-worlds’ location - rural with a real sense of the remote amid the Lammermuir Hills, yet very easily accessible from the buzz of Edinburgh (just 30 minutes) and close to all of the gorgeous Scottish Borders towns. They love small, intimate weddings (as few as three guests!) as much as they love full blown affairs, and can accommodate up to 300 guests. You can choose from their four wedding spaces to perfectly fit the style and scale of your day: a beautiful marquee, an oak-panelled reception room, a country-chic private room and an exclusive site on their hillside farm.

At the heart of historic Melrose and adjacent to the town’s famous abbey, Harmony House and Garden offers elegance and tranquillity amidst one-and-a-half hectares of rich and colourful walled garden: an idyllic setting for weddings, whether marquee events or more intimate celebrations. Harmony House is a beautifully restored Regency villa, offering luxury accommodation for up to fourteen guests. When hired for exclusive use, Harmony House and Garden can also be used, at an additional charge, for religious and humanist wedding ceremonies, champagne receptions, garden parties, dinners, and wedding breakfasts.

The wedding gown is one of the first items to be sought out and bought by the bride. There is something magical about selecting a bridal gown and eventually every bride will recognize her dress once she has tried it on. Quite often what the bride had in mind for her perfect gown turns out to be the one she least thought would be appropriate.

Booking your wedding transport should be somewhere near the top of your to-do list – just below booking the church or ceremony and the reception. If you like choice and don’t want to find yourself gritting your teeth and saying, “I guess that will do”, you should try to book your transport at least a year to six months in advance.

Barry’s Bridal Classic Cars, based in Melrose has been operating in the Scottish Borders for over ten years; they have a Beauford and a Mercedes Executive that seats 7 passengers. The Beauford is unique in the Borders as the only open top tourer available to hire for a wedding. At Barry’s Bridal Classic Cars, they know it’s the little things that make the difference. The jewel in our crown is our cars. One look at the sweeping curves of the beautiful Beauford and you are instantly transported to a by-gone era of romance.

You will be driven in the eye-catching car of your choice (be prepared for many admiring looks as these cars certainly attract attention) to the wedding venue.

After the wedding ceremony, our driver will crack open a celebratory bottle of ‘bubbly’ for the happy couple to enjoy while on route to the reception.

And finally, of course you will need someone to capture the special day…
