Christmas In The City

Resist the urge to hibernate this winter. There's loads going on right across the city to get you in the festive spirit

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Edinburgh is set to be jam-packed with festive fun this year. Edinburgh always sparkles in the winter, and thanks to the lovely people at Edinburgh's Christmas 2017, there's lots going on for people of all ages this season.

Running from 17 November to 6 January, Edinburgh's Christmas is one of the most popular Christmas celebrations in the UK, and this year's programme is the biggest to date, expanding into community hubs outside of the city centre.

There's all the usual favourites, of course, ranging from Santa Land's Christmas Tree Maze in East Princes Street Gardens to the Forth One Big Wheel. The Scottish Market will join together with the European Market to see over 130 craft, food and drink stalls pop up across the Gardens.

We can't wait for The Ice Adventure; a journey through frozen Scotland which will sit at the west end of George Street. This amazing new attraction is made of snow and ice and will see some of Scotland's best-known icons – from Robert the Bruce to Dolly the Sheep – turned into spectacular ice sculptures.

Edinburgh’s Giant Advent Calendar is a free attraction which will be projected every evening onto General Register House. It will offer passers-by 25 glimpses of Edinburgh winters from years gone by, with one festive scene revealed each day.

Looking for the perfect Christmas night out? Internationally acclaimed La Clique will be at the Festival Square Spiegeltent, bringing their heady mix of cabaret, new burlesque, circus and contemporary vaudeville to Edinburgh.

And if you've still got energy left after all that? Nothing beats Edinburgh's Hogmanay, and this year marks its 25th birthday. The iconic Torchlight Procession will kick things off while Rag 'n' Bone Man – the biggest UK breakout star of 2017 – will headline the Street Party. TC
